Nouns - Lonely Place of Dyin EP

nouns - lonely place of dyin

Arkansas based band 'Nouns' release their first project since 2014. It's a heavily changeable piece of material that never rests on its laurels. The only certainty is uncertainty.

The 'Lonely Place of Dyin' EP is quite baffling in it's breadth - it casts a wide net over the music landscape. Utterly impressive in pushing the envelope Nouns set out to shorten the distance between the boundaries of genre. Everything can be partnered up and strengthened when done right. The range of instrumentation on show is a feat in itself, never mind the fact that the instruments are all used to astonishing effect. The avenues in which the material walks, runs and bombs down is fresh and innovative and are some of the most enjoyable experiments of the year to say the least. Criss-crossing genre's at free-will Nouns amalgamation of Post-Hardcore, Experimental Rock, Emo, Screamo, Noise Rock and even Post-Rock meshes an array of history and scenes with a close-knit stitch.

Passages of extremely emotive soundscapes cool the Lonely Place of Dyin EP down and offer respite from the chaotic space in which Nouns often find themselves. These passages move the EP on an upward/downward trajectory similar to that of a roller coaster. The Lonely Place of Dyin EP is a journey of the highest highs and the lowest lows. The ebb and flow of life must be adhered to.

Lo-Fi to a degree the interesting production techniques across the project strengthen the appeal of it's untethered nature.
Seeing these tracks performed live would be an amazing experience. How these guys found each other and settled on this capricious material is something of a mystery. How the material works as smoothly and efficiently as it does is another mystery unto itself.

One for the end of year lists for sure.
