Pilotredsky - Medallion EP

Pilotredsky - 'Pilot Red Sky' also known as Pilotredsun - 'Pilot Red Sun' of which you can find his animation endeavours on YouTube hails from San Jose, California. His talent for the visual game has extended over to the music world as he paints in similar playful ways for your wobble conductors.

Once you've heard the music the animations will make sense and vice versa. They're like companion pieces, backing up each others existence. They go hand in hand is the easiest way of putting it. Both are obscure in essence and somewhat purposefully off-kiltered. Those conventions that you find yourselves within are pushed and pulled with the help of artists like Pilotredsky.

It's safe to say that Pilotredsky is another offspring of the Aphex Twin variety. Who isn't tnese days? Sonically speaking the Medallion EP takes heavy influence from his most recent 'Collapse EP', released in 2018. That bubbly, mischievous sound palette makes itself known from the very first second that the material is unleashed. The production quality is top notch. The only way this material has a hope of working is for it to be well mixed dynamically speaking. Any less 'clean' or forthright and it falls into oblivion.

The Medallion EP has a vibrant, full of life and colourful textural presence. Through the chaos comes the resilient nature of the fun that is to be had with this kind of shape-shifting offering. Pilotredsky's approach to the electronic game is without a doubt heading down the more experimental route. It's the sonic equivalent of falling into the worlds of his animation pieces.

The Medallion EP is nothing short of challenging but it still has hooks and things to hold onto. If you're looking to expand your ear horizons give it a go. Pilotredsky's other 2021 release the 'Edition EP' follows a similar sonic path.
