Pop Vulture - Another Success EP
Come Play With Me
Pop Vulture's debut project finds itself in the shape of the Another Success EP. It was/is released on Leeds based label Come Play With Me(CPWM).
Pop Vulture hit the ground running with Another Success. It's 'another' success because the Pop Vulture crew have seemingly made it to a place of plateaued contentedness - although the material often spits sharp rhetoric. Seeing through your own eyes is enough, the rest is all add-ons from there on out. A 38 second intro sets the EP up as Comforting Lie comes out of the building jangle. Comforting Lie was released back in March as a single. Blister is adorned with these weeping wind instruments. Like the most sorrowful of sighs they tug and tear. Another Success is rather funky at times. Or maybe the nervousness rumbling throughout makes it seem like it's up for a dance. Maybe it just wants to be left alone. Happy in its own head; on its own terms. Smiling, on the outside. Shaking like a shitting dog, on the inside. Hung up on ones hopes. Being a different person every day - being fed up with the fact. Good for nothing except knowing how it ends. Put off by the long and winding road to nowhere. Humour doesn't fade even when under the weather. The bright side does exist, it's just more effort to deal with.
A slice of humour with a slight hint of a snarl. A wit which packs a killing glance. Charming, but out to kill. Playful, but under this inexplicably harsh existential pressure. A weight which holds everything down. A burdensome blanket. Not for warmth or comfort. Just for smothering the soul. Keeping it under acerbic saran wrap. Keeping it in line.
What comforting lies have you knowingly hidden behind?
Here's to many more successes. The debut full length needs to be on your radars.
