Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
Age 101 Music/AWAL
Little Simz fourth studio album, and follow up to 2019's astounding 'Grey Area', holds the proverbial weight of the world on it's shoulders. Expectations and outside pressures change the atmosphere surrounding a project. It takes control and a clear vision to not get wrapped up in hype. With Simz at the wheel you can be sure that the cobwebs of outside pressures are blown away by pristine focus and acute determination.
Topping 2019's 'Grey Area' seemed like an impossible task at the time, but the factor of time is a key ingredient in Little Simz formula. Never underestimate one's abilities to delve deeper into the abyss when alone time is cherished. Sometimes I Might Be Introvert catches Simz deep in thought, as we have come to expect from her character. Pondering the what if's of life run in a roundabout fashion. Moving on is the obvious move, but never as easy or as clean as it seems. It's always with you. The past becomes future through thoughts and intrinsic festerings. Learning to live with it seems to be the only way. Sometimes is home to Simz meditative quality and once again places her in a position years beyond her age.
Little Simz cuts through - the noise, the bullshit, the drama - and places her being on a pedestal. Backed by a fuller sound - more dense and overall immersive - Little Simz's words hold that much more weight. Simz words resonate with reverence. With a realized mindset comes the intense introspection and maturity on show. Introspection through grandiose soundtracks and theatrics plays out in such a beautiful way - similar to the metamorphoses from caterpillar to butterfly it pushes energy in a complete new direction.
Standing Ovation is a triumphant track, but one of many on Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. It heavily embodies the essence of Brother Ali - Hip-Hop's spiritual hero - and his never-ending search for heritage and the righteous path. In fact it sounds like something that could have easily been on his 2007 album 'The Undisputed Truth' or 2012's 'Mourning in America and Dreaming in Colour'.
Little Simz bridges the gap between the two major forces in modern day Hip-Hop - the US and the UK. Nobody has managed to make it as seamless and as utterly unquestionable as London's very own Little Simz.
