Alphabet Holds Hostage - truth in habitual EP

alphabet holds hostage - truth in habitual

truth in habitual is the first piece of material that I have heard from Alphabet Holds Hostage, great name by the way! and it is one hell of an introduction to say the least.

Opening track 'twentyfive/ohsix' sets the standard as subdued melodies are met with harsh, sunburnt haze as the guitars burst to life and the track along with it. A song structure that will be implemented throughout the course of the EP. 'Longing and yearning in zero gravity' takes a page from hip-hop's papers and serves as a wonderful take on the recent Lo-Fi surge. Nostalgic is a word that comes to mind. Aural delight is a feeling that comes to touch.

The artwork suggests effervescence.
Shoegaze, dream pop, ethereal, ambient. All the metaphysical capable forms of music umbrella'd into one. Dreams, nightmares and everything inbetween can be found within the confines of this little EP. truth in habitual treads the fine line between pure bliss and pure agony. The 'You're either ascending upwards or you're spiraling down' sentiment rings true.

If you're into recordings that sound like they've been left out in the sun, look no further! Have a Nice Life have had a major impact on any group that manages to blend the blown out with the most lush of soundscapes.

Nightmares on cloud nine.
