Richard Dawson - End of the Middle

Domino

Newcastle native Richard(Just Rich) Dawson releases his eighth studio album. End of the Middle puts the everyday under sonic inspection; the family home becomes a never-ending world of potential and history under the eye of Richard Dawson. The little things that you never noticed slide right on by, until you notice them, and now they're all that there is. The beauty of it all lies right beneath our noses.

Country lanes and over-arching branches that tap you on the shoulder as if to whisper wise words in your ear - bucolic beauty. End of the Middle plays out like diary entries across the decades. Mental notes jotted down and kept close to unfold to further generations. Lessons learned, things to cherish, things to love and things to let go. Ephemeral moments imprinted on paper, captured forever. Worded photographs. Life's liner notes.

The morning news radiates from your parents bedroom as they fumble around and get ready for work. The heavy-handed hoover sucking up the dirt from the front room carpet. A two-week old newspaper sits open on the kitchen table. A fresh breeze rushes through the house as Sunday morning starts, windows wide as if in a constant sidewards yawn. The smell of burnt toast making its way around the house like a hypnotic drift, pulling you towards the kettle and tub of butter. The cat weaves in between legs in the infinite figure of eight, expecting a feast. The kettle boils again and again. Steam pours up and out like a train through the highlands.

Nothing ever happens, then it all happens at once. Fancy another cuppa?

End of the Middle is out now via Domino.
