The Clash - London Calling

December 14th, 1979.

The Clash's sonic statement London Calling turns 45.

London Calling is The Clash at their most poignant, crystal clear and dialled in on the times. With a range as fine and as far reaching as the catalogue of music itself, The Clash splayed their gritty, astute fingers over the music landscape. London Calling finds its name and iconic cover plastered on many an "all-time" list, and for good reason. London Calling's a definitive project; a stand against the shackles of expectation. It re-defined what "Punk" was as not just a mere sound or style, but a reflection of a mindset - a means of life. You define things by transcending them; going beyond to see the way forwards - pull things into the present from a future point in time. A vision is essential.

The influences throughout spread far and wide. Flecks of Reggae, Ska, Punk and smears of Jazzy exuberance find themselves as conduits of The Clash's artistic foresight.

In the annals of "Rock", London Calling exists as a piece of potential for what can be done within the confines of a specific scene. The mould is set to produce the same; look further afield and bring back what you find. London Calling feels like a call to arms; there's no time for pissing about - up your game, or get gone.

London Calling: a pillar possessed of fortified sounds criss-crossed together to form a certified classic of the best bits of the 20th Century.
